Composition Competition 2009!
The task for 2009 was to write a setting of The Choristers' Prayer for any combination of voices, accompanied or unaccompanied.
The essential criteria are:
  • The work must have been composed within the 12 months prior to entry
  • The work should be in a style suitable to be sung in worship and at RSCM gatherings
  • There are no specific criteria for judging, however it is expected that originality, singability, musical structure, and general appeal will be important

 The Choristers' Prayer

Bless, O Lord, us Thy servants,
 who minister in Thy temple.
Grant that what we sing with our lips,
we may believe in our hearts,
and what we believe in our hearts,
we may show forth in our lives.
 Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
 Amen.
On Sunday, June 21 at St John's Church, Reid, the four finalists' entries were performed at the
2009 COMPOSITION COMPETITION FINALISTS' CONCERT

It was a enormously successful and enjoyable afternoon, with a high standard of entries and performances, and a full church. We were honoured to once again have respected Australian composer Ann Carr-Boyd join us to judge the finalists' entries.

CONGRATULATIONS to the joint winners: Les Davey of Canberra and Adrian Wintle of Wagga Wagga!

MANY THANKS to Ann Carr-Boyd for joining us again and providing her valued comments, and to Gemma Dashwood and singers from All Saints and elsewhere for preparing the event, rehearsing and performing the entries. Thanks also to organists Sheila Thompson and Graeme Brown for their musical interludes between the choral performances.
